TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Week 10 of the high school football season is in the books and it was a doozy.
A few southern Arizona teams lost and are now fighting for a postseason spot while others won and greatly improved their playoff ranking.
The KOLD Overtime Game of the Week was a perfect example of that.
The Sabino Sabercats rolled past the Sahuarita Mustangs 28-14 in the Division 3A, South Region matchup.
Sabino (7-2) likely locked down a home game for the first round of the playoffs, which begin in two weeks. The Sabercats were ranked No. 7 before the win Friday.
Sahuarita (5-4) was No. 16 before the loss and may find itself on the outside looking in when the 16-team field is announced.
Another game of note was Douglas at Palo Verde.
The Bulldogs were cruising this season at 6-2 and moving into the postseason picture in Division 4A. But that all went away earlier in the day when they were forced to forfeit six wins for violating AIA rules.
Douglas routed Palo Verde 48-3, but at 1-8 the Bulldogs' playoff hopes are dead.
Other Tucson-area teams likely to make the postseason are:
DIVISION 5A: Cienega, Flowing Wells, Marana, Buena and Ironwood Ridge.
DIVISION 4A: Salpointe Catholic, Sahuaro, CDO and Walden Grove,
DIVISION 3A: Pusch Ridge.
