TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, Dec. 12, to honor a Marine who was killed in a midair collision off the coast of Japan.
Staff Sgt. Maximo A. Flores was among five missing Marines declared dead after their refueling plane collided with a fighter jet last week. The U.S. military said search and recovery operations ended after finding only one survivor.
Ducey’s order says flags will also be lowered on the day of Flores' interment, which has not yet been scheduled.
“Arizona is grateful for Staff Sergeant Flores’ service and dedication to defending our country,” Ducey said in a statement.
