TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson Unified will have more than 500 substitute teachers at the start of the new year. It’s a goal by the district to fill the need for subs.
Lawrence K-8 is one of the schools that is in need of substitute teachers. According to the school’s principal, they don’t often get subs out there. So sometimes they have to use teachers in house to cover for the subs.
The principal told Tucson News Now, the location of the school plays a role in the school not getting subs. Lawrence is more than 25 minutes from downtown Tucson and about 10 minutes from the I-19 and Valencia exit.
The school takes a team first attitude towards the problem and their goal is to do it for the kids.
With TUSD’s plan to pay substitutes more for working at schools that are L-25 like Lawrence, the principal believes that there will be more subs available for the school.
