TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tucson is seeing a shortage is gas this holiday season due to a leak in a pipeline coming from New Mexico.
At 11:50 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday Dec. 13, Kinder Morgan discovered a gasoline pipeline release on its SFPP system in Anthony, New Mexico. Upon discovery, the impacted 12-inch pipeline segment, running from El Paso to Tucson, was isolated and shut down. The product was contained in an isolated irrigation ditch and all free product has been removed. Remediation activities are now underway. Repairs on the impacted pipeline segment were completed on Dec. 19, and normal operations resumed on Dec. 20.
Trucks from the Phoenix area have picked up some of the slack, but some gas stations are still running out of fuel.
Kinder Morgan is continuing to work on cleanup and restoration plans and and investigation into the cleanup is underway.
