TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - As cold temperatures move into Southern Arizona, people are making sure they are protecting their homes.
Julie Kramer is the store manager at the Mark’s Ace Hardware near Campbell and Glenn. She said people started rushing into the store to buy supplies since Wednesday.
Some of the popular items flying off the shelves are plant protectors and pipe insulation. Kramer says spending a few bucks now can save customers a lot down the road.
“Then they’re coming in buying copper which of course is real expensive, copper pieces. Then you got a lot of how do you get all this back together. There’s a lot of repairs that end up happening, which is a lot more costly than just coming in and spending a couple bucks on pipe installation,” she explained.
The freezing temps has customers like Gayl Zhao also worried about their plants.
“I’m gonna put some lights around my tomato bush. The plants, the smaller ones, the citrus. It’s in a pot, I’ll cover that,” she said.
Both Zhao and Kramer agree preparing is key.
“If you know it’s gonna be cold and hard freeze fast, cover it. It’s not worth it not to be prepared,” said Zhao.
“Better safe than sorry you wanna prepare ahead of time than be coming in to do repairs afterwards,” added Kramer.
