CITY OF MARICOPA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A historic rail car in Maricopa County was relocated on Thursday with some serious help.
For the past 15 years a silver horizon-domed observation car from the pre-Amtrak era has greeted drivers as they make their way by the City of Maricopa.
Officials say the move is being made as an overpass is built over State Route 347, changing the layout of the town.
A tractor trailer hauled the massive train car, temporarily closing down the highway. Two massive cranes were used to place the train car at its permanent home.
"It's something that the people of maricopa have really come to know and love so we wanted to make sure it stayed a showpiece, as the center of town adjusts and changes a little bit with the overpass, with new roads and such this will actually be the new center we're very happy to have it," said Christian Price, City of Maricopa Mayor.
The area around the train will soon be landscaped and become the city’s newest park.
