Civil War era cannon stolen in 2017, found in 2019

Stolen Civil War cannon found

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - Here is a ‘blast from the past’ a Civil War era cannon has been found.

Roberta Nichols held out hope that one day her late husband Walt’s civil war cannon would return to their backyard. It was stolen from there in June 2017. She thought they would never see it.

Nichols received a letter in the mail over the weekend. They had found her trailer. She called the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and after several questions. She discovered they had the trailer and the cannon in Florence. Nichols says, she was excited and even cried.

It is bittersweet for her. She is happy that Bessie, that’s what they call the cannon, was found. But sad, because her husband Walt died after it was stolen and he won’t get to see it. But she believes he helped track down the cannon from up above.

The cannon was a part of the Southwest Living History Association. It was used for civil war re-enactments. Nichols is now trying to find a way to get it back to Tucson.
