Leader Of Border Militia Faces Charges

The leader of a border militia group faces charges after officials say he was caught on federal land with a loaded weapon.

Chris Simcox of Tombstone heads up "Civil Homeland Defense."

The Chief Ranger of the Coronado National Memorial says Simcox was issued three citations over the weekend. One for conducting a special operation without a permit, another for possessing a loaded weapon in the national memorial and a third for interfering with a law enforcement function.

They are all misdemeanor citations. But, Simcox could go to jail if he's found guilty.

Simcox says he was not conducting a patrol of the border when he was cited. He says he was hiking.
