TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Northwest Fire is taking applications for its fire academy in the spring.

The District is hiring 10 to 12 men and women to be trained and paid during the 14-weeks of fire academy that starts in April.

Then the District will hire at least ten graduates for full-time positions. 

Depending on federal grants, it may also hire another 14 full-timers over the next two years.

To qualify for the Academy, you must be 18, have a high school diploma or GED, or a higher degree.  You must also have a valid driver's license, be CPR certified by the end of this month and be a state or nationally certified emergency medical technician or a certified emergency paramedic by February 22, 2010.

Successful applicants also must have the physical ability to perform the various firefighting duties.

 The starting salary is $39,457.  To apply, you can go to www.northwestfire.org and select "Firefighter Recruitment."
