TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - The youngest Arizonans could be taking the brunt of the budget cuts as the state deals with its financial crisis.
Full day kindergarten in public schools still is on the chopping block.
It's estimated Arizona could save about 218 million dollars next fiscal year if it dumps all day kindergarten.
That's in the next fiscal year, but it's the long-term effects that have local educators and parents worried.
All day kindergarten has shown to have both academic and social benefits for children.
School districts are trying to figure out if they can find ways to keep all day kindergarten.
Amphitheater Unified School District says it doesn't believe any district can do it.
An Amphi spokesman says previous massive state budget cuts have cut the school districts to the bone.
