Researchers found regular tea drinkers had a lower risk of developing squamous cell and basal cell carcinoma.
The effect was even stronger among study participants who had been tea fans for decades, as well as those who had at least two cups on a regular basis.
The researchers studied narly 2,200 adults.
The researchers warn that drinking a lot of tea doesn't mean you can spend a lot of time in the sun.
The scientists did not find any evidence that drinking tea lowered the risk of skin cancer in people who had had many painful sunburns over the years.
And this study did not look at the relationship between tea drinking and melonoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
The study is in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
