Dew point is the temperature to which air must be cooled for it to reach saturation. In other words, it is the temperature when dew will form on surfaces like your car.
So why is dew point important to the monsoon?
When dew points reach the mid 50s there is enough moisture in the atmosphere to sustain monsoon storm development.
Why look at the dew point and not the relative humidity?
The dew point is steadier throughout the day whereas relative humidity changes significantly because of daytime heating.
So dew point is more reliable in tracking monsoon moisture.
