An exercise that will prepare firefighters and Tucson Electric Power crews for an emergency.

They are training for an incident involving high-powered electrical lines.

They de-energized the Medina Substation on the southwest side for the exercise, but there was no interruption in service for customers in the area.

The whole idea was for firefighters and TEP workers to have a plan if something goes really wrong.

TFD'S Tricia Tracy said, "We're practicing safety with TEP so that if an incident does occur, we can control the fire and prevent it from spreading to structures in the surrounding area."

In the event of a fire at a substation , and the fire department arrived before TEP, firefighters would have to wait for TEP to secure the area.

In the meantime, fire crews would do what they could to protect the neighborhood.
