Green Valley Community Food Bank clients are benefitting from at least one man's green thumb.
Angelo Lascala has given thousands of pounds of fresh produce to the food bank in Green Valley over the past few years. He said that last year he gave over a ton of vegetables, and so far this year he has given more than 16-hundred. The food bank says fresh produce helps families make the canned food they get last longer.
"If they got a can of let's say of tuna and that was what they were going to use to feed their family, if they add lettuce and tomato and onion to enhance that, it makes it go further," said Mary Jane Goodrick, branch manager of the Green Valley Community Food Bank.
"I like to think they're going to enjoy what they get," Lascala said.
The Green Valley Community Food Bank says it helped about 25 families a day last year, and now 40 to 45 families a day are seeking help.
