The following is KOLD News 13's coverage of the proposal when it was released Oct 7, 2008:

Plans to widen Grant Road include demolishing landmark buildings like the Bookman's on Grant and Campbell, according to a proposal released Monday night.

A total of 421 businesses and homes will be affected by the project. Of those 421, 153 will be "full acquisitions" -- purchased by the city at fair market value.

The proposal details plans to widen a five-mile stretch of Grant road along Oracle and Swan to six lanes. Desert friendly landscaping, improved bicycle routes and ramped up transit centers are also planned.
