Lute Olson has suffered a stroke in the past year, says his doctor, Stephen Knope.
That led Knope to recommend Olson's retirement, despite objections from the retired UA basketball coach.
Knope suspected Olson had a stroke after he failed to respond to treatment for depression. An MRI scan confirmed the stroke hit the frontal lobe of Olson's brain.
Although it did not effect his motor functions, Knope said it did impact his ability to process complicated thoughts.
Olson's physician said in the past year heart complications led to a blood clot floating to his brain which likely led to the stroke.
