GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - The Phoenix Coyotes recalled rugged left wing Ryan Hollweg from the minors Monday and signed him to a 1-year contract.
Financial terms were not released.
The 26-year-old Hollweg was invited to the Coyotes' training camp this year on a tryout basis and was assigned to their AHL affiliate in San Antonio on Sept. 22.
He was an eighth-round draft pick of the New York Rangers in 2001 and played for the Rangers from 2005-08 before being acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs in a July 2008 trade.
In 225 career NHL games with the Rangers and Maple Leafs, Hollweg has 5 goals, 9 assists and 349 penalty minutes.
The Coyotes open their season Saturday night at Los Angeles.
