DOUGLAS, AZ - The #13 Pima Community College women's soccer team defeated Cochise College, 2-1, in ACCAC conference action, Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Aztecs improve to 16-1, and they seal-the-deal on the ACCAC regular season championship. Pima also earned the #1 seed for the 2009 Region 1 Championship; with that seeding they will receive a bye in the first round.
The Apaches opened up the scoring when they took a 1-0 lead at the 27:14 point of the first half. Tamra James, (FR, Tucson, AZ, Catalina Foothills HS) evened the game up at 1-1, when she was set up by Emily Shuta, (SO, Tucson, AZ, Tucson HS), with less than two minutes remaining in the opening frame.
ACCAC top goal scorer, Shuta, scored the only goal of the second half, which was her 14th of the season.
Adrianna Phininzy, (SO, Tucson, AZ, Palo Verde HS) earned the win in net as she made four saves in the conference win.
The Aztecs will close out the 2009 regular season, on Saturday, when they travel to Phoenix College to take on the Bears. The ACCAC match is scheduled to start at 4:30 pm, in Phoenix.
