Police report two people are dead after a man smashed his car into several vehicles near the University of Arizona late Saturday night.
Bond is set at $150,000 for Phillip Musgrove, 22, who on Saturday night witnesses say ran the red light at Speedway and Campbell causing the accident.
Craig Dean Gmur, 24, and Thomas Michael Flynn Jr., 21, were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at University Medical Center, according to a police spokesperson.
Musgrove is being held in the Pima County jail and is facing two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault, one count of felony endangerment and one count of felony criminal damage, according to court records.
Four others were hurt in the crash, according to authorities.
Musgrove has had a few run-ins with the law, including two other murder cases. Court records show Musgrove was arrested in two separate murders, one in 2004, and the other in 2006.
In the first case Musgrove was found not guilty. But in the second, the charges against Musgrove were dismissed with prejudice; due to the witness who placed him at the scene is missing.
Investigators do not know what provoked the actions that led to the accident on Saturday but are looking into the possibility of alcohol and or drug abuse.
