Former Arizona football coach LaRue dies

Jim LaRue, who was the Arizona Wildcats head football coach in the early 60s, has died, according to the UA Athletics Department. He was 89.

LaRue was 41-37-2 in eight seasons with the Wildcats from 1959-66.

He went on to coach in the NFL, where he served as a secondary coach with the Chicago Bears. He was a member of the Bears' 1985 Super Bowl championship team.

"We are saddened to hear the news of Coach LaRue's passing," Arizona Athletics Director Greg Byrne said in a news release. "He was a positive representative of our department and our football program. His teams and his legacy are an important part of our football program's history."

Funeral services have yet to be arranged.
