TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A former sheriff's deputy has been arrested after an undercover investigation connected him to a murder for hire conspiracy, according Sierra Vista Police Department.
Israel Burkholder allegedly wanted to hire someone to kill another man, according to a release from SVPD.
Burkholder, who was under an internal affairs investigation at the Cochise County Sheriff's Office, hasn't worked in a law enforcement capacity for almost a year, according to the release.

Detectives had been monitoring Burkholder. They learned that he was allegedly conspiring with someone at a convenience store in the area of Avenida Cochise and Buffalo Soldier Trail Sunday afternoon, Nov. 6, according to the release.
Members of the department's Special Response Team continued the surveillance at the convenience store. They arrested Burkholder before he could leave just after 5 p.m. Sunday.
Burkholder is charged with conspiracy to commit first degree murder, according to SVPD. He is being held at Cochise County Jail.
