TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Cienega boys and Tucson girls emerged victorious from Southern Arizona Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Mountain View High School.
Among the winners for the Bobcats were Rodney Rogers in the 200 (21.93) with a personal record time and UA Football signee Jamarye Joiner in 110 hurdles (14.28).
Rogers and Joiner combined with juniors Tavaan Whaples and Geo Owens to win the 4x100 relay (42.90).
Cienega also won the 4x400 (3:26.27) with Rogers, Frankie Ciampa, Michael Fonseca and Owen Slattery.
In what might have been the race of the day, Sahuaro's Trayvion White-Austin (10.81) edged out Tucson's Octavius Thomas to win the 100 by 1/100ths of a second.
On the girls side, Neysia Howard led the Badgers with victories in the 100 (12.06) and 200 (24.66).
Howard tied for title in the long jump with Gila Ridge's Mia Corners (17-09.00).
The senior UA Track signee combined with Dejanae Wilmore, Abigail Walls and Jenica Bosko to win the 4x400 relay (4:05.60).
Walls also took the high jump title (5-04.00) while THMS junior Ajaysha Lewis won the 110 hurdles (15.56).
Salpointe Catholic's Ana Alvarez-Tostado ran to first place finishes in both the 1600 (5:18.41) and 3200 (12:25.44).
The Ironwood Ridge foursome of Paelata Helu, Hannah Irwin, Hannah Price and Berkely Larsen won the 4x100 relay with a school-record time (49.16).
The state track and field championships begin May 2 at Mesa Community College.
