TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Fire Department responded to the call of a suspicious odor coming from an apartment in the 3000 block of north Alvernon Way around 11 a.m. Thursday. A person who had been walking by the apartment called it in, according to a TFD news release.
Crews at the scene confirmed the suspicious nature of the odor and requested assistance from the TFD Hazardous Materials Team.
Three residents of the complex were complaining of minor medical symptoms associated with exposure to the odor. The residents were evaluated and released at the scene.
According to the news release, the Haz Mat team arrived at the complex and, based on upon previous call types encountered in this area, requested a Tucson Police Department EOD (Bomb Squad) response for entry into the apartment.
The bomb squad arrived and utilized their robot (outfitted with TFD’s air monitoring equipment) to determine that no hazard was present in the apartment. Although the apartment did appear to be vandalized, no hazardous substances were located, according to the release.
