Monday’s eight-vehicle accident at Speedway and Wilmot turns fatal

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A serious crash near the intersection of Speedway and Wilmot Monday morning has now turned fatal.
According to witnesses, east and westbound traffic was stopped at a red light at Wilmot Rd. when a gray Nissan Sentra was seen traveling westbound on Speedway Blvd. at a high rate of speed. The Sentra struck a red Mazda MXS, which was stopped for the light.
Five other vehicles were damaged as a result of the chain reaction.
The Tucson Fire Department transported both the driver of the Nissan and the driver of the Mazda to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. A third victim from another vehicle, was later transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
On September 25, the Traffic Investigations Unit was advised that the driver of the Mazda, 74-year-old Sue Stibbe, had passed away at the hospital from the injuries she received during the collision
No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
