TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Saguaro National Park, Tucson Mountain (West) District is looking for interested groups or individuals who may have an interest in adapting and reusing the Perper House, a facility inside the park’s west district, via a lease with the National Park Service
According to SNP this is an issue for a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI), to be used for information and planning purposes, not necessarily asking for proposals on usage.
Ideas should support the mission of Saguaro National Park, which according to SNP is preserving and protecting the saguaro cacti; diverse biotic communities (including the Sonoran Desert, associated mountain ecosystems, and Rincon Creek); cultural and archeological features; and scientific, scenic, and wilderness values. SNP also provides opportunities for research, education, and public enjoyment, and strives to protect its resources from the effects of the encroachment from urbanization and development.
The Perper House was a life estate within Park boundaries, according to a SNP news release. SNP gained ownership of the property in October 2015. Perper House is made up of a main house (2,822 square feet on a five-acre lot. It is a one story slump block structure with a metal roof built in 1988. The primary living area is comprised of a kitchen, large family room, master bedroom, and bathroom. There is an attached wing accessible through a screened patio which includes two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The heat is forced air and the cooling is air conditioned. A detached 600 square foot building was built in 1998. It includes a two car garage, bedroom, kitchenette, and a bathroom.)
