Man who stabbed two people in foiled robbery attempt sentenced to 30 years in prison

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The knife-wielding man who tried to rob a landmark South Tucson restaurant in July will spend 30 years behind bars for his crime.

A judge in Pima County Superior Court sentenced Jerry Evans Madril on Dec. 7 to 7.5 years for attempted armed robbery and 7.5 years each for for three counts of aggravated assault, deadly weapon/dangerous instrument.

The terms are to be served consecutively.

Madril stabbed two people during a robbery attempt at Mi Nidito, 1813 S. Fourth Avenue on July 11. The victims employees who were fighting back after Madril, who was armed with a knife, demanded money.

The employees subdued Madril and held him until police arrived.
