East-side charter school announces sudden closing

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The winter break marks the end for a Tucson charter school, according to a letter to parents.

According to the letter, Desert Springs Academy at 10129 E. Speedway Boulevard will close its doors permanently when students are released for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 21.

The letter cited low enrollment, new charter schools nearby and “unexpected circumstances” as reasons for the decision to close.

The tuition-free school serving grades K-5 has been in operation since August 1999.
