Sahuarita boy who inspired community dies from cancer
Marcus 'Junior' Cook, who inspired the Sahuarita community to follow along on his battle with cancer, died Sunday, December 23.

SAHUARITA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A five-year-old boy who inspired the Sahuarita community to follow along on his journey and battle with cancer died Sunday, December 23.

Marcus ‘Junior’ Cook was beloved in the Pima County town. In November, his family and friends pulled together to decorate his home early for Christmas. Those who coordinated the event were worried he might not live long enough to celebrate the holiday.

Rural-Metro and Green Valley firefighters went the extra mile to string the lights.

Junior was battling a brain tumor and was in hospice care at his Sahuarita home after his diagnosis in 2017. Doctors recently told his parents there was nothing more that could be done to help him.

A Facebook page devoted to the boy’s battle announced his passing Sunday morning.

Sahuarita Police also made the announcement of his passing on their Facebook page.
