Ducey orders flags at half-staff for fallen Salt River Police officer
Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has ordered flags at state buildings to be flown at half-staff on Jan. 9.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Gov. Doug Ducey ordered all state flags to be flown at half-staff on Wednesday, Jan. 9, to honor a police officer with the Salt River Tribe.

Officer Clayton Townsend was a 5-year veteran of the Salt River Police Department. He leaves behind a wife and 10-month-old child.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, he was struck by a car while on a traffic stop on State Route 101, near McDowell Road in Scottsdale, on Tuesday evening, Jan. 8.

Troopers are conducting an investigation.
