TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - An inmate at the Pima County Jail has been charged in the murder of a 25-year-old on the south side.

Augustino Martinez, 29, has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault w/a Deadly Weapon and one count of Aggravated Assault w/Serious Physical Injury for his involvement in the deadly shooting on 12th Avenue in November of last year.

When officers arrived, Bernardo Marin was found on the ground in the BK’s parking lot and another in a vehicle nearby.

According to TPD, there was “some kind of verbal altercation” before shots were fired. Suspects fled the scene.

As this investigation continued, detectives and analysts from both TPD and the Arizona State Gang Task Force began working together and determined Martinez was involved in the murder of Marin.

On January 11, 2019, detectives located Martinez at the Pima County Jail where he was being held on unrelated charges.

Although Gang Detectives were investigating this incident, TPD said the shooting does not appear to be gang-related.

Additional suspects are believed to be involved and detectives are continuing their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
