Students push for safety improvements at Sunnyside High
Students at Sunnyside High School say they did not always feel safe in the crosswalk on Bilby Road.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A new safety measure is now in place at Sunnyside High School to help keep students safe.

The city installed flashing lights at the crosswalk on Bilby Road just west of Campbell Avenue.

Students had expressed their concerns about the crosswalk, saying they felt unsafe especially early in the morning and late at night.

The student body council took their concerns to the city and worked closely with the vice-mayor’s office to make safety improvements.

A dedication ceremony to unveil the new crosswalk will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m.
