UPDATE: Fire in abandoned building turns fatal
A fire near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base sent one person to the hospital on Jan. 16.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - One person has died after an early-morning fire in an abandoned building near Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

According to information from the Tucson Fire Department, the fire was reported just before 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the building in the 4700 block of E. 29th Street, near Swan Road.

A resident in a nearby apartment building called 911 to report the fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found and paramedics treated one victim, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No firefighters were injured.

The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation. Damages have not been determined.
