TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tanque Verde senior forward Nikya Orange is a nominee for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game.
She is one of 400 nominees from across the country but one of just four from the state of Arizona.
Out of those 400 nominees, 24 will make the final cut for the two teams that will play in the annual game in Atlanta this May.
Orange is currently averaging 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks (17-4, 3-0) who are tied for the 3A South section lead with Sabino.
The 5’11 forward has 15 double-doubles on the season.
She’s in her second season at Tanque Verde after playing her first two prep campaigns at Sabino.
She’ll get a chance to face her old team Tuesday night (January 22) when the Hawks host the Sabercats in the first of their two section meetings.
