TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - Six vehicles, including two U.S. Border Patrol vehicles were involved in the crash near Alvernon Way and Irvington Road on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, 35-year-old Richard Santana driving a red SUV was heading north on Alvernon Way when he hit a Border Patrol vehicle in the rear, forcing the BP vehicle to hit the vehicle in front of them and causing a chain reaction.

A second BP vehicle was rear ended by another passenger vehicle.

There were injuries involved in the crash, according to PCSD. Santana was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while a BP agent and one other person were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The exact cause of the crash is not known at this time, but PCSD is saying speed may be a possible factor.
