Access to ‘A’ Mountain restricted for Good Friday procession, Easter service

'A' Mountain closures

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - The road to "A" Mountain will have intermittent closures this weekend, for Good Friday and Easter Sunday services.

Sentinel Peak Road will close at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19.

The Good Friday Cross Procession is free to the public. People will begin meeting at the lower parking lot at 4 p.m. and the procession up to the top of the mountain begins at 5 p.m. Services will be conducted in English and Spanish.

On Saturday, "A" Mountain will reopen to pedestrians and bicyclists at 8 a.m. and to cars at 9 a.m.

Members of Los Dorados Orphan League (The Golden Ones) will keep night and day vigil. The area will be closed to the public again at 8 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, a service will begin at 6 a.m. and will be done in English and Spanish. "A" Mountain will reopen to the public at noon.

Detour alert

Because of construction on Congress Street between Silverbell Road and Grande Avenue, drivers wanting to access Sentinel Peak Park need to use Grande Avenue to Cedar Street, then turn left onto Sentinel Peak Road.

The speed limit in the neighborhood is 25 mph.
