TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - One man is dead and a teenager is in the hospital after a single-car crash in Cochise County.

First responders closed Dragoon Road between Cochise Stronghold and Manzoro Road Sunday afternoon. They arrived on scene just after 12:30 p.m., according to an update from the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.

The initial investigation found a 1997 Toyota 4Runner heading east on Dragoon Road lost control. The driver over-corrected, causing a rollover crash, according to CCSO.

Law enforcement stated the driver, a 45-year-old man, was ejected and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews helped a teenage passenger, who suffered serious head injuries and was trapped inside the vehicle.

The 17 year old was airlifted to a Tucson hospital. The driver and passenger are related, according to an update from CCSO.

Investigators believe the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The passenger was.

Dragoon Road has since reopened.
