TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - Pima County has received the final past-due payment from Perimeter Bicycling Association of America, Inc., reimbursing the county for its support of the 2018 El Tour de Tucson bicycle race.
In February, Pima County notified Perimeter Bicycling of $180,000 in overdue invoices for traffic control barricades and other services used to support the bicycle race in previous years.
Because of the large amount the organization owed, the county considered legal remedies if Perimeter refused to repay the past-due amounts. Fortunately, through negotiations and Perimeter’s own organizational reforms, legal actions were avoided and the debt settled.
“We are pleased Perimeter Bicycling has finalized its financial obligation to the taxpayers of Pima County,” said Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry. “Pima County has long provided financial and operational support to Perimeter and its annual El Tour de Tucson bicycle race because we recognize the value it provides to the community.”
Pima County has supported the El Tour de Tucson race since its inception in 1983. In that time the race has grown in popularity to become one of the southwest’s most popular cycling events with thousands of cyclists participating each year.
