Cats find NFL homes

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - Saturday was a big day for one U of A Wildcat, defensive tackle PJ Johnson.

He was the 229th pick (7th round) in the NFL Draft and is headed to the Detroit Lions.

Johnson played just one season (junior) for the Wildcats after transferring from San Francisco City College. He also played a season of college football in his hometown at Sacramento State.

He made an immediate impact on Kevin Sumlin’s 1st defensive line, teaming with Dereck Boles to add much needed bulk up front.

Johnson measured out at 6-feet-4, 335 pounds at Arizona’s Pro Day. He had three sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss in 10 games.

His linemate Boles went undrafted as did UA wide receiver Shawn Poindexter and safety Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles.

Shortly after the draft ended both Poindexter and Flannigan-Fowles found rookie free agent homes with the San Francisco 49ers.
