Tucson man gets 15 years in child abuse case
Cody James Thomas was sentenced to 15 years in prison for abusing a Tucson child.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) -A Tucson man will spend 15 years in prison for an abuse case that left a toddler with permanent brain damage.

The Pima County Attorney’s Office said Cody James Thomas was sentenced last week. After his release, he will be on probation for 25 years.

The PCAO said Thomas was watching the 16-month-old boy in October 2017 when the child was injured.

“At first, Thomas said he didn’t know anything about how the child was injured,” the PCAO said in a news release. “Later, he said he accidentally fell on top of (the victim).”

Doctors said the child’s injuries were not consistent with that type of trauma.

Thomas, who is not related to the child, pleaded guilty to abuse charges in December 2018.
