The U.S. News Best High Schools rankings are in, see which AZ schools ranked this year

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - The report for the best U.S. High Schools are in and this year, more than 17,000 schools were ranked based on six factors including performance on state assessments and how well the schools prepare students for college.

Unfortunately, the best high school in the U.S. is no longer in Arizona according to the U.S. News and World report and its 2019 ranking of the country’s top high schools.

Charter school, Basis Scottsdale, held the top spot last year, but now it’s number three.

The well-known high school was bumped by Academic Magnet High School in South Carolina and Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Other Basis schools including north Tucson and Oro Valley dropped out of the national top ten.

University High School in the Tucson Unified School District ranked 40th.
