TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - A tip to the Sierra Vista Police Department, an investigation and traffic stop helped land a Sierra Vista couple in jail.
According to a SVPD news release, 34-year-old Amber Ayala was arrested on Tuesday, April 30 after a traffic stop south of Huachuca City. She now faces the following charges: possession of a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug for sale, transportation of a dangerous drug for sale, tampering with evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A man, identified as 36-year-old Adam Moreno was driving the vehicle when it was stopped. He was also arrested and faces charges of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
SVPD received information that Ayala was reportedly selling drugs in the Sierra Vista area and began an investigation, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Border Patrol.
Agents had a description of her vehicle and had it under surveillance. According to the news release the vehicle was stopped on Tuesday, April 30 as it was traveling southbound between Sierra Vista and Huachuca City.
A canine unit was brought in to assist in the search of the vehicle, where investigators discovered 2.96 grams of methamphetamine and 1.32 pounds of liquid methamphetamine. Officials also report that Ayala, who was a passenger in the vehicle, had been attempting to conceal a large amount of methamphetamine in a liquid container during the course of the traffic stop.
Both Ayala and Moreno were booked into the Cochise County Jail.
