NCAASB: #6 Cats’ bats silent in loss to #3 Dawgs

The Wildcats fall to 1-6 on the season in games against teams ranked in the Top 5

#3 Washington 2, #6 Arizona Softball 1

TUCSON, AZ - The 3rd ranked Washington Huskies defeated the #6 Arizona Wildcats, 2-1 on Friday in front of another sold-out crowd at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Morganne Flores belted a two-run home run in the top of the third for the Huskies that would be all the support that pitcher Gabbie Plain (18-2) needed in the circle. She allowed one run on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 6.2 innings pitched.

Taran Alvelo earned the save, striking out Wildcats slugger Dejah Mulipola on three pitches for the final out, stranding the tying run in scoring position.

The Wildcats outhit the Huskies in the game, 6-3, but went just 2-of-13 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine runners on base.

The good news is the Wildcats are still tied for first place in the Pac-12 Conference. #2 UCLA also lost on Friday, falling to Stanford 2-1 in Palo Alto

Game 2 of the series between the Wildcats (40-9, 17-2 Pac-12) and Huskies (40-7, 15-4 Pac-12) is Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m..
