TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - Ironwood Ridge Softball survived Elimination Saturday.

The 3rd seed Nighthawks beat rival #7 Mountain View 7-3 at Amphitheater High School to remain alive in the Conference 5A state tournament.

Rachel Hirschfeld and Jaiden Reid each had a pair of RBI for IRHS to back a solid outing in the circle by Shelby Thompson.

The Nighthawks broke a 2-2 tie against the Mountain Lions (19-10) with a four-run 4th inning.

Ironwood Ridge (22-6) will play again Thursday at the Rose Mofford Complex in Phoenix against the loser of Tuesday’s Bracket A quarterfinal between 9th seed Willow Canyon and 3rd seed Horizon.

#4 seed Sunnyside (19-5) also stayed alive with an Elimination game 11-0 run-rule win over Sunnyslope.

The Blue Devils will play the loser of Tuesday’s Bracket B quarterfinal between 6th seed Empire and #2 seed Peoria Centennial.

In Conference 3A, Sabino advances to the state championship game with a 3-0 win over Pusch Ridge Christian Academy.

The 7th seed Sabercats (21-3) will play #4 seed Snowflake at ASU’s Farrington Stadium at 7:45 Monday night.

The Lobos ended Sahuarita’s run at a second straight state title with a 3-2 victory.

Sabino will be looking for their third state championship and first since 2005.
