TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - A longtime staple in a neighborhood near downtown Tucson is set to reopen.

The pool at Oury Park in Barrio Anita has been shut down since 2011 due to money problems. Thanks to community efforts, the city is hoping to reopen it in time for this summer’s swim season.

Neighbors like Steve Sanchez were excited to hear the news.

“There’s a lot of people that are gonna be happy that the pool is gonna get reopened," he said. “They’re gonna love it. Exercise, stay away from the streets.”

Money was raised in part by a grant written by council woman Regina Romero, federal grants and community fundraisers.

Meanwhile, other city pools still remain shut down. They are:

  • Escalante Pool
  • Santa Rita Pool
  • Randolph Pool
  • Mission Manor Pool
  • Northwest District Pool

The city said Mission and Northwest will be improved and reopen with money from Prop 407.
