#Pac12TF: Geist named top male athlete; Teran wins women’s high jump

The UA men finished 3rd but fell short on some of their overall meet goals

2 UA tracksters win Pac-12 titles

TUCSON, AZ - Sunday night saw the conclusion of the Pac-12 Track & Field Championships at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

Jordan Geist was named Male Athlete of the Meet for a second year in a row following a 22-point performance.

Highlighting day two of the action were Karla Teran who won a Pac-12 Championship in the high jump and James Smith who set an Arizona School Record in the 400-meter hurdles.

The sophomore Geist tallied 22 points across three events. He won the shot-put event on Saturday while finishing third in the hammer and discus throws.

Teran won the ladies high jump championship with a clearance of 1.88m (6-2).

Smith rewrote the Arizona record books in the 400-meter hurdle final stopping the clock in 49.93. He finished third overall.

The Wildcat men finished 3rd overall (94 points) behind Oregon (173) and UCLA (140). It was the Ducks 13th straight title on the men’s side. USC (154) won the ladies title. Arizona finished 7th (57.5 points).

Up next, the Cats will host the Tucson Elite Classic on May 16th & 18th at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.
