TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A convicted sex offender has been accused of killing his mom in Tucson, trying to burn her house down and then kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend.

Court documents are shedding new light on the case against Shane Paul Martin.

Martin was arrested Wednesday, May 1 on charges of first-degree murder.

Authorities said Martin killed his mother, 73-year-old Julia Rankin, on Friday, April 26.

In addition to the murder charge, he is now facing charges of attempted arson, kidnapping, aggravated assault and failure to register as a sex offender.

Martin allegedly tried to burn down Rankin's home, located in the 4200 block of East Dover Stravenue, after killing her.

He is also now accused of kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend, who was initially arrested on a murder charge along with Martin.

KOLD News 13 will no longer identify Martin’s girlfriend, as she is now considered a crime victim.

Last checked, Martin’s girlfriend had been released from the Pima County Jail while Martin is being held on a $1 million bond.

Martin has an extensive criminal record and was convicted of rape of a minor in Arkansas.

He has also been convicted of burglary, theft and terroristic threats.
