Tucson is tied for 5th in the IFL standings but sitting in the sixth and final playoff spot

Sugar Skulls intensity is tested in late season

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Tucson is back on track thanks to a season-long domination of fellow-expansion team San Diego.

The Sugar Skulls (5-5) with two straight wins over the Strike Force (1-9) are hanging on to the sixth and final playoff spot in the Indoor Football League.

Tucson travels to Bismarck (2-7) this Saturday for the second of their two games this season against the Bucks.

The Sugar Skulls beat Bismarck 62-42 on March 10 at Tucson Arena in the home opener.

Quarterback Jake Medlock enters this Week 13 game fifth in the IFL in touchdown passes with 22. Running back Mike Jones, despite missing a recent contest, has 16 rushing touchdowns, fourth most in the league.

Sugar Skulls defensive lineman Rayshawn Henderson is the IFL Defensive Player of the Week.

Henderson had a diving interception of a deflected pass early in the fourth quarter, one of three San Diego turnovers that led to 21 points for the Sugar Skulls. He also had a fourth-quarter sack and was credited with five tackles.

It is the fifth Player of the Week award for the Sugar Skulls this season.

Defensive back and kick returner Dee Maggitt Jr. has won it twice, once for special teams and once for defense. Quarterback Matt Behrendt won the award for offense, and placekicker Diego Marquez won it for special teams.

Bucks defensive back Joseph Blunt Jr. is second in the league in tackles per game (10).

Bismarck is last in the league in total offense (200 ypg) and defense (283 ypg).
