Public open house planned to highlight South 12th Avenue improvements project

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The public is invited to attend a public open house by Ward 1 Council Member Regina Romero, Ward 5 Council Member Richard Fimbres, and the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) for the South 12th Avenue, Irvington Road to Drexel Road, Transportation and Streetscape Improvements Project.

The open house is scheduled for Thursday, June 13 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the El Pueblo Senior Center Multipurpose Room at 101 W. Irvington Road, Tucson 85706

According to a City of Tucson news release it has been working with neighborhoods and businesses to design improvements on South 12th Avenue between Irvington Road and Drexel Road that will make the street safer, attractive and more welcoming to all types of roadway users.

  • Permanent improvements to include: sidewalks, consolidating driveway entrances to improve safety, and streetscape and landscape improvements.
  • Pilot project improvements to include: reducing the number of vehicle travel lanes to one lane in each direction, adding striped bicycle lanes, and creating on-street parking in some locations.

During the open house, the public can meet the project team, ask questions, and provide written comments regarding the project improvements.
