Sugar Skulls come up one-point short in Phoenix

Tucson as expected must now win their final game to make the IFL playoffs

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Tucson Sugar Skulls went toe-to-toe with the unbeaten Arizona Rattlers for 60 minutes, but it wasn’t quite enough as the home team pulled out a 50-49 overtime win, in front of a crowd of 13,755 at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Arizona Coach Kevin Guy called for a two-point conversion trailing by one in overtime, and quarterback Drew Powell ran into the corner of the end zone to stop the Sugar Skulls’ upset bid,

Arizona (13-0) went 4-0 this season against new rival Tucson (6-7).

Sugar Skulls are in the playoffs in the first year of the franchise.

Tucson built a 35-14 first-half lead behind the arm and legs of quarterback Jake Medlock.

Medlock threw for two scores and ran for three more. Rattlers quarterback Drew Powell threw for four touchdowns.
