TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A security guard fatally shot an armed man at a business in midtown Tucson on Monday, June 17.
The Tucson Police Department said Anthony L. Garrett, 24, showed up at a business complex at 5210 East Williams Circle around 6 p.m.
Authorities said Garrett’s ex-girlfriend works at one of the businesses in the complex and the two had lived together before a recent breakup. Garrett was wanted for an incident that allegedly happened five days before the fatal shooting.
The TPD said Garrett forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment on June 12 and threatened her and his ex-roommate with a gun. Detectives obtained probable cause to arrest Garrett on multiple felony charges, but were unable to find him.
Garrett’s ex-girlfriend then told her employer about him and gave security a photograph so they would be able to identify him if he ever showed up at the business.
The TPD said workers spotted Garrett when he appeared June 17 and alerted security. Two security guards met Garrett in the lobby of the complex and a fight broke out.
Garrett and one of the guards got into a shootout, according to the TPD. Garrett was shot and died at the scene while one of the guard was hit in his boot, but was not injured.
